73 YEARS OF SERVICE
A Single Donation Goes a Long Way
In 1949, a new method of giving was established in our communities. With one donation, donors were able to fund multiple local programs and United Way Community Events.
Since 1949 our donor base has changed with the passing of time. In 2023 I completed my ninth year as the Executive Director of United Way of Butte and Anaconda. I have had the pleasure of working with many volunteers, those on our Board of Directors and those who have participated in our events. I have seen some longtime donors pass and have welcomed new ones. I have seen employee giving decline and individual giving remain steady. Donations have decreased considerably, but through all these changes it is through the generosity of our donors that we still have that we were able to support twelve local programs and hosted four community events, one activity for children 0-5 and established a new activity benefitting Seniors.
Our Dress a Child event was held in August. In October we participated in KBOW/KOPR’s Treat Street. December saw volunteers complete 9 Days of Christmas Readings and many new donors provided gifts to seniors through our Angel Giving Tree. January and February saw an increase in participants for our Stone Soup events. Our Day of the Child event was held in March. In May we participated in the 9th Annual Older American’s Month “Free” Fun Fair and our allocation decisions for 23-24 were made. We finished our year in June with bobbing for apples at the YMCA’s Kids Day and with a great group of volunteers providing their “Sweat Equity” during our Day of Caring.
Our partner agencies provided programing to 5,391 individuals. They helped educate youth & adults, provided food and shelter to those young & old and provided care to disabled children and their families. Adding in our events, we made an impact on 6,218 individuals in Butte, Anaconda, Deer lodge and Whitehall.
As in 1949, when volunteer giving helped meet human needs, today even more, donors are always needed to help us give a Helping Hand.
